We’re ready for the barn now!

Ever seen such handsome concrete?

Even Santa couldn’t have come up with anything better!

I’ve shown some of these pics on Facebook, but you’re the first to see the whole shebang.

So, here’s the lay of the land…

You come in about 8 miles off of the interstate, down some country roads, and then down our country road.

The Roaring Fork river becomes a creek in this area. The creek runs the entire length of the property.

You turn into the brand new, wide and gently sloping entry onto the property…

Cross our brand new culvert onto the brand new gravel driveway.

(It needs another layer of gravel soon, some rip-rap - when you see a sloped area where water drains, you put rocks in it to help the water from washing the road away.)

Drive almost a quarter mile on the gravel road, to your right is pasture and creek and to your left, the bulk of the property, so all you’ll see is an upward slope full of trees… black walnut, cedar, oak, elm, maple, and a lot more that I haven’t even identified yet.

And then you reach the brand new barn pad, with its even newer scores to protect it from cracking in the cold weather.

The concrete has to cure for 28 days (did you know that? I didn’t!).

Then the fine folks building our 30x40’ metal pole barn in North Carolina will bring the barn here and install it. Dark green metal siding, white roof and trim, a big ole 10’ garage door and two walk-through doors.

If it’s winter when we move up (still waiting for the Alabama house to sell!), we’ll get a camper. If it’s warm, though, we might just move into the barn (after adding power and plumbing!).

It’s not the progress I’d hoped for in 2023… I’d hoped we’d be hosting you!

But it’s still a fantastic leap forward, and we’re incredibly grateful for it. Baby steps, right?

Taking next week off from Idyllwild Woods updates, but really excited for 2024. We’re on the cusp of a huge year - and best of all, we should be seeing you around the campfire soon!!!

Merry Christmas to you all, and thank you for being on this journey with us!

P.S. Special thanks to hubby’s dad for trekking out to the site now and then to take pics for us.
