Rain delay… but thinking about dining out.

Wayyyy out

Welp, the barn building folks called yesterday to say, “Hey, it’s cold and rainy.”

Yup. It is.

Hubby had to chuckle. He used to do construction in South Dakota. In the winter.

He’d wear layers upon layers upon layers… then eat a hot lunch of about 5,000 calories each day. Just to stay warm, and to counteract how many calories he’d burn shivering.

So, there were some “back in my day…” sentiments expressed around here over the delay.

But we get it.

The barn’s being built in North Carolina, a few hours away from Idyllwild Woods.

Over the mountains. Through the woods.

Then, they’ll haul it over the mountains to get to Greeneville and install it on our lovely barn pad.

I wouldn’t even want to drive a car over those roads if they’re icy.

So, we happily wait.

But I wanted to float an idea by you…

Some might call it “immersive dining,” if they’re all up on trendy terms.

We’re calling it an outdoor kitchen.

Thinking of making a space where we could have a common area for breakfast and coffee, plus a commercial kitchen setup visiting chefs and caterers would LOVE to use to cook delicious stuff.

We don’t want to be a restaurant! But we’re figuring that this would be a great way to gather, eat delicious food, maybe have a cocktail. (Great for retreats - maybe a wedding now and then?)

It’ll be a four-season deal… a full roof, plastic roll-down walls for when it’s cold or rainy, misters and fans to keep it cool in the summer, those heat tower thingies to keep it toasty in the winter.

What do you think? Would you enjoy hanging out there for coffee, cocktails, or even a meal “immersed” in nature?
